Anglers Paradise 10.05.2008 - 17.05.2008 We spent the week at Anglers Paradise. The accommodation is first class (though I did not see inside the disabled accommodation). We stayed in Fisherman's Desire which was beautifully furnished and decorated. However, it only had a bath, so if you are really into your showers, then pay particular attention to the room specifications in the brochure. I found the fishing to be excellent, though I did not fish every lake. Fishing is extra to the price of the holiday, and is paid for in the bar when you receive your welcome glass of wine and bottle to take back to your unit. You have to pay cash and there is a weekly budget ticket which covers the non-specimen lakes. The specimen lakes are extra on top of your main fishing and can be paid for the day before in the tackle shop, although you may have to ask at reception for them to open the tackle shop. Within your unit is a helpful folder with local information including the nearest supermarkets, Doctors surgery etc, an accommodation inventory and also a list of the fish weights for winning a bottle of wine. However it doesn't include lists of other tackle shops in the vicinity. We found a small one in an arcade at Okehampton, but by far the biggest tackle shop around is an approximately 30 min drive away at Homeleigh Garden Centre. There is a car park next to the Easy Access lake, with a hard standing for disabled drivers, which links with the concrete paths that meander around the complex, taking you to the majority of the lakes. This path links to the pagodas on most of the lakes which are there for the disabled anglers. As we are talking about Devon, some of these paths have long inclines which after a days fishing are tiring to trek back up. In places the banks can be rather boggy, but if you stick to the path and pagodas you won't suffer from this problem. Facilities on site are: - Tackle Shop, Swimming Pool, Bar, Children's Play Ground, Games Room, Multi Gym, Jacuzzi, Sauna, and launderette. On the Sunday there is a BBQ, though after reading about this in the forum, I must say I found it a little disappointing, although it was a great occasion for meeting the other guests. All in all we had a great week, with lovely accommodation, set in beautiful countryside. The rest of the holidaymakers were fun and likeminded and I had the opportunity to catch some fish, rarely found in other fisheries - smashing several PB's on the way. However, like all holiday complexes, they can never please everyone all of the time, and there's always room to improve. If your favourite fisheries are not listed, please contact us.
